Artist Introduction:
Born in 1971 in Nanyang, Henan Province, and graduating from the Department of Fine Arts at Henan University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree, followed by a master's degree from the Mural Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, the artist embarked on an eight-year-long creative journey titled the “Dao Inquiry” series after completing graduate studies. This period was not only a time for refining artistic language, but also a profound exploration that answered many fundamental questions on both spiritual and existential levels. It laid a solid foundation for the subsequent artistic path.
Following this phase, the focus shifted to the “Tang Style” series. A deep and indescribable admiration for Han and Tang dynasty culture—especially the grandeur of the High Tang period—inspired an attempt to reconstruct on canvas the majestic, open, and confident spirit of that era. In these works, figures of the Tang dynasty ride freely through vast landscapes, living in harmony with nature. Their postures are composed and unhurried, radiating inner certainty and serenity—free from anxiety, chaos, conflict, or flight.
Horsemanship and archery, in this context, transcend mere technique. They become an aesthetic lifestyle and a form of spiritual ritual. Creating the “Tang Style” series is not just a tribute to a glorious history; it is also an effort to rebuild a classical and idealized spiritual homeland for contemporary Chinese audiences and even viewers around the world.
It is deeply gratifying to witness how the dignity and character conveyed through the works not only evoke a renewed sense of connection among the Chinese people to their great cultural heritage, but also resonate with Western audiences, who see in them echoes of the chivalric spirit and a sense of the sublime. This cross-cultural and timeless resonance affirms a shared human pursuit of enduring spiritual values.
